A Celebration! At the Arts Centre

Robin Cancer Trust

We blog a fair bit here at The Chronic all about the brilliant Colchester Arts Centre. We’ve also been blogging of late about the hyperlocal work being carried out by the Robin Cancer Trust, a charity with a very firm footing around Sunny Colch.

Bring the two together and hurrah! We have a blog post that embraces just about everything that The Chronic is trying to achieve.

Appropriately titled A Celebration! – the RCT is staging something of a well-deserved congratulatory event at the Arts Centre on 25th November. Having formed just under a year ago, and with charitable status already obtained, this is an opportunity for the RCT to raise its profile around the town and to continue to carry on raising awareness of the rare germ cancer that took the life of Robin Freeman, the young Colchester man that has inspired the organisation.

Live acts appearing on the night at the Arts Centre include Joe Boyd and Matt Wye of We Are Embassy, Jakob Deist and Sam Robinson. The new website for the RCT will be launched, along with a range of merchandise. RCT founder Toby Freeman will be also be announcing the future plans for the charity.

Toby explains:

“The reason we are celebrating is simple; we have achieved two long-term goals in a very short space of time. Since our founding in February 2012 The RCT set itself some big targets, two of which were the following: to achieve registered charity status and to create a website for Germ Cell Cancer awareness.

I am happy to announce that within just nine months, both of these goals have become a reality. A Celebration! is our chance to say thank you to everyone who has helped us along the way, to those that have donated their time, skills and hard-earned cash to help us to realise our first set of ambitions for the Charity.”

As for the Arts Centre?

“We chose the Arts Centre for this event because it offers us the best opportunity to do what we do best, put on a party! We have enough space for all our wonderful supporters, we have the full use of their stage, lighting and projectors and there’s also a bar!”

Which is a refreshing approach from a charity.

Some great support has come the way of the RCT of late. Many in the Sunny Colch community are already on board – the charity was recently featured in the Colchester United match day programme.

Entrance on the 25th at the Arts Centre is FREE. A Celebration! runs from 7pm – 11pm.

Charity, home etc.
