Sunny Colch Alleycat

The first Sunny Colch Alleycat ride is scheduled to roll out this Saturday evening from outside @firstsite. Alleycats are established on the London messenger circuit, but something new to Sunny Colch. Essentially it a bicycle race around the town, with little or no formal rules. The squeaky clean Halfords Tour Series this most certainly isn’t.

The Alleycat around Britain’s Oldest Recorded is being put together by local mechanic, Richard Evans. Richard is an ex-London messenger, and so knows a thing or two about what makes for a good alleycat. By day and Richard works at Re-cycle, Colchester’s Bike Aid for Africa. He also knows his way around a bicycle workshop…

Alleycats can sometimes pick up an unwelcome reputation for being a little anarchic. This is slightly unfair, and the Sunny Colch roll out is centred around participation and enjoyment, rather than first past the post. Male and female riders are encouraged to enter.

En route and riders will have various check ins around the town to complete, as well as a cycling treasure hunt that is being put in place. As with all decent alleycats, the first staging of the Sunny Colch ride will end with some half shandies at the recently re-opened Alehouse along Butt Road.

Random doping for alcohol levels for the winner is unlikely.

Ride safe, ride with lights, and probably best to ride with helmets as well.

The first Sunny Colch Alleycat will roll out at 8pm on Saturday 24th outside the Golden Goose.

Chapeau!
